originally seen on goaupair.comThe first few days of your arrival can be very exciting, your family is eager to get to know you and you must feel the same way. The first days are also a time of adjustments for the family and for you.
For this reason, the Department of State regulation states that a Host Family must agree that “a parent or other responsible adult will remain in the home for the first three days following the Au Pair’s arrival.”  So don’t worry, you will not be alone.
After your have arrived and settled,
take the time to get used to the new surroundings, the different weather, the time change, your new home. Take the first three days to familiarize yourself with the household, talk to your family about their schedule and especially how the children should be cared for in the home.
It is also a good idea to take these first days to make arrangements with your Host Family. Will you need to buy a cell phone? When and how will the stipend be paid? If you are expected to drive, make sure you get a chance to use to the car while your Host Parents are around.
